Born in 1951, Tim Rushton was fascinated by his childhood landscape of North Manchester and Oldham, with its shattered mixture of industry and shrinking countryside. Farms and valleys squeezed between railways, cotton mills and old canals produced a strong visual vocabulary, which he drew and painted as he grew up.

Four years at art school in the mid ‘70s, both in Manchester and Portsmouth, helped him to develop an abstract language, which has continued to evolve during his career.

Mountain landscape, organic form and a love of typography and design, both architectural and mechanical, have all fused with his early inspirations and have enabled him to work in a variety of media.
